This four part learning series with Stacey Parker focuses on dentistry from a nursing perspective and covers common dental presentations encountered in practice.
Anaesthesia concerns for the dental patient, analgesic options, as well as post op care, both within the hospital setting and at home are also covered.
By the end of this learning series, nurses will be better able to:
- Be familiar with different dental presentations seen in practice, including abnormal dentition, tooth fractures and malocclusion problems
- Confidently assist with planning and monitoring a general anaesthetic for dentistry with particular reference to airway security, avoiding hypothermia and treating hypotension
- Understand analgesia options for dentistry: including what drugs we could utilise, how and why we would want to use them and when we may need to avoid some of them
- Plan post-operative care for the dental patient
