Gene Mutation Linked To Breathing Difficulties In Dogs
A new study has revealed that dogs carrying copies of the mutated ADAMTS3 gene may be at higher risk of airway disease. Previous studies have linked mutations in this gene to fluid retention and oedema but this new study involving Norwich Terriers found a link between upper airway syndrome and the mutation in ADAMTS3 gene. A lot more research is required before genetic test screening is recommended but it is a step forward in understanding canine upper airway disease. The study has been published in PLOS Genetics.
