This course will offer practical training on common ophthalmic surgical procedures that can be carried out in first opinion small animal general practice. Background theory on each procedure will be covered in short lectures that will also provide an overview on instrumentation, basic principles of microsurgery and correct preparation of the eye for surgical procedures. The majority of the day will be spent ‘hands-on’ in cadaver based practical sessions where delegates will have the opportunity to gain confidence in these surgical procedures.
Topics to be covered include:
- Eyelid wedge excision – to address eyelid masses, distichia clumps
- Punch biopsy excision – to address ectopic cilia
- Keratotomy / corneal burr debridement – to address non-healing ulcers in dogs
- Eyelid surgery – to address simple entropion and trichiasis
