This very practical course is aimed as an introduction or refresher to the topic. We look at diagnosis, planning and surgical application as well as potential complications, limitations and post operative care.
The morning session will cover the aetiopathogenesis of cranial cruciate ligament disease a review of the anatomy and function of the stifle and look at orthopaedic examination and diagnostic techniques. This will be followed by a review of principal surgical techniques used to treat cranial cruciate ligament rupture. We will have a discussion on meniscal examination and treatment of meniscal injury before heading to the lab for both a dry and wet lab practical.
In the afternoon we will review patellar luxation with a review of the anatomy and function and a orthopaedic examination and diagnostic techniques. The afternoon concludes with a dry and wet lab practical and a discussion for experiential insight, critical feedback and answers to your questions.
Topics to be covered include:
- Selection of appropriate patients for lateral suture and tibial crest transposition
- Understanding the regional anatomy and appropriate landmarks for implant placement
- Use and selection of instruments and implants
- How to perform the lateral tibia fabellar suture and the commonly applied surgeries for patella luxation such as tibial crest transposition and sulcoplasties
- Post operative management of patients
- Recognising and resolving the complications associated with surgery
